Battle of the Bulge is a Facebook group that my first husband's cousin started. Along with my daughter and other members of the family she suffers from PCOS, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. PCOS is an imbalance of a females sex hormones. There are a variety of issues that go along with PCOS, issues with the menstrual cycle, cysts, inability to become pregnant, and more. PCOS is also associated with weight gain, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, along with having negative effects on the body, such as male like characteristics, and skin issues.
There is no cure for PCOS except to have a healthy lifestyle, which includes healthy eating habits, and exercise. It is hard enough without a medical issue to live this type of lifestyle add PCOS, and it can be even more difficult. Some individuals, like my daughter, may also experience a lack of energy. Which can set one up for failure right off the bat.
PCOS occurs in 5%-10% of all woman and is the common of most woman who deal with infertility. Jo would like to have children one day, it is her motivation to lead a healthy lifestyle. She needed support, she wanted others to come beside who were also dealing with health and fitness issues. So, she decided to start a group on Facebook, Battle of the Bulge. It is here where others can come blow off steam, vent, share, encourage, and support each other as they each deal with the "Battle of the Bulge."
